The Process
The first stage of any commission is a site
survey to get a feel for the plot you have in mind and to learn
from you - and sometimes your children - the sort of treehouse you
want to own. (With our stilt designs, for example, you do not need
a tree to attach the treehouse, and this may suit some gardens)
With a set budget for the project, we then
put together proposals, including a drawing of the treehouse. With
that drawing and budget approved, we begin work.
Construction will normally take anything between
2-12 days depending on the project.
Some guidance on planning permission, tree
preservation orders, our environmental and health and safety policies
Planning Permission
Planning permission is not normally needed
for treehouses unless the structure is going to be higher than 3m
and/or the site means that the house makes a significant visual
intrusion on neighbours privacy. The Treehouse Team is happy to
advise but final responsibility for planning permission remains
with the owners of the property and if you have any doubts, you
should make your own checks with the local planning authority.
Tree Preservation Orders
Trees with preservation orders are subject
to special protection and if they are suitable for treehouse construction,
permission from the local tree protection officer is needed before
construction can begin. The Treehouse Team is happy to advise on
the suitability of your trees for a treehouse but final responsibility
for permission in respect of a protected tree remains with the owners
of the property. If you have any doubts, you should make your own
checks with the local authority.
Environment
Working outside and building in and with trees,
we take ecological concerns seriously and will undertake environmental
impact studies ahead of large treehouse projects. In particular,
we use timber from sustainable forests, we minimise waste and recycle
as much as possible. In addition, we ensure that the construction
methods do not cause damage to trees or natural habitats.
Health and Safety
The site area will be maintained as a safe
area throughout construction as we are aware of the health and safety
priorities for our building team and those around the site. However,
we ask that parents should keep themselves and their children clear
of the site until the project is finished and handed over.
