Nautical treehouse, Sevenoaks, Kent

This nautical treehouse was built for two small boys. The brief was to build a den for them on a boat theme that was flexible enough to accomodate their different play interests as they grew older.

The design aimed to create two elements:

1. a large boat deck area, complete with anchor, flag and ship's wheel for outdoor play
2. a ship's cabin, complete with a raised bunk for reading and sleepovers.

The resulting structure, which is supported on four columns, is set into bushes to minimise the impact on the garden and neighbours. It is a wonderful feature in the garden, as well as a practical and engaging all weather play area.
